The Calm & Quench Serum | Natural Cooling & Hydrating Face Serum
Cooling water serum · Small-batch Berkshire · Fragrance-free
The Calm & Quench Serum by Audere Pure is a lightweight water serum that does something most serums don't — it uses cucumber water instead of plain water as its base, at 60% of the formula. On top of that sits a double hydration system: snow mushroom, whose polysaccharides can hold up to 500 times their weight in water, and hyaluronic acid, famous for holding up to 1,000 times its own. One pulls moisture in; the other keeps it from leaving.
Then there's the calm. Bisabolol — the soothing molecule found in chamomile — and liquorice root extract comfort skin that's feeling reactive, flushed or simply overdone, while marine algae adds a mineral-rich finishing layer. It suits every skin type, including sensitive. It works morning and night, all year round — and chilled from the fridge, it's the most refreshing step in your routine. Completely fragrance-free: no parfum, no essential oils, nothing added for scent. £22.00.

EVERY INGREDIENT, EXPLAINED
If it's in the bottle, it's on the label — and here's exactly why it's there. Swipe through.
Cucumber Water
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Water
The base of this whole serum — used in place of plain water, at 60% of the formula. Steam-distilled from a fruit that is itself around 96% water, carrying cucumber's naturally cooling, soothing character with it.
How it works: Where most serums add a token drop of cucumber to a plain water base, here the base is the cucumber — which is why the cooling feel is immediate and real, not marketing.
Snow Mushroom
Tremella Fuciformis Extract & Lactobacillus Ferment
The hero hydrator — the botanical the beauty world has adopted as the plant answer to hyaluronic acid. It forms a weightless, flexible moisture film across the skin that slows water loss while feeling like nothing at all.
Clinical evidence: Tremella polysaccharides can hold up to 500 times their weight in water, with particles smaller than most hyaluronic acid molecules — properties documented across cosmetic science research. (add source link)
Hyaluronic Acid
Sodium Hyaluronate
The hydration molecule your skin already recognises, because it makes its own. A humectant that draws water into the upper layers of skin and holds it there, visibly plumping fine, dehydrated lines.
How it works: Hyaluronic acid can bind up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Paired with snow mushroom, HA pulls moisture in while tremella's film keeps it from escaping — so the plumping lasts.
Cucumber Extract
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract
Yes, more cucumber — deliberately. Where the cucumber water provides the cooling base, the concentrated extract delivers a higher dose of the plant's soothing, conditioning compounds. Two strengths of the same botanical in one serum.
Liquorice Root Extract
Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract
A gentle botanical for skin that flushes easily — calming the look of redness and supporting a visibly more even tone over time.
Clinical evidence: Glabridin, the active compound in liquorice root, was shown in a double-blind clinical study to outperform 4% hydroquinone cream on brightening and pigmentation reduction. (Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology)
Bisabolol
Bisabolol
The calming molecule at the heart of chamomile, in its pure plant-derived form — sustainably sourced from the Candeia tree. One of the most widely used soothing actives in sensitive-skin formulation.
How it works: Bisabolol comforts skin that's feeling irritated or overexposed, and is known to enhance the absorption of the ingredients applied alongside it. (add source link)
Marine Algae Extract
Algae Extract
The mineral layer — a concentrated dose of ocean-derived compounds that support the skin's moisture balance and leave a conditioned, cared-for finish. Cucumber from the garden, tremella from the forest, algae from the sea.
Propanediol
Propanediol
A humectant naturally derived from corn sugar through fermentation — a plant alternative to petroleum-based glycols. It draws moisture to the skin, gives the serum its light, non-sticky glide, and disperses the actives into a perfectly smooth, clear serum.
Distilled Water
Aqua
Pure distilled water completes the base — used instead of tap water to guarantee purity and keep the actives stable.
The Preservative System
Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid
A water-based serum must be preserved to stay safe — so we name every part of ours. Gentle, widely used food-and-cosmetic-grade preservatives at the low levels needed to keep each batch fresh. (The salicylic acid here is at preservative level — it's not an exfoliating active.)
The Scent — There Isn't One
No parfum · no essential oils · no fragrance allergens
Nothing in this formula is added for scent. What you may notice is a faint, watery-green note from the cucumber itself, which disappears as the serum absorbs. With no essential oils, there are no fragrance allergens to declare — making this the gentlest formula in our range for fragrance-sensitive skin.
