This is the comfort step — the one you reach for when skin feels tight, reactive or in need of something more concentrated than a cream. Rosehip oil and calendula-infused sunflower oil nourish and calm the look of redness, while squalane cushions without weight and mango seed butter gives it that cushiony, rich feel. Rosehip Oil

Rosa Canina Fruit Oil

The heart of the balm at 25% — a nourishing plant oil rich in skin-loving fatty acids, including linoleic and oleic acid, that helps condition and restore dry, depleted skin.

Squalane

A weightless emollient that mimics the slip of skin's own natural oils. At 24% it cushions and smooths, helping the richer ingredients absorb without leaving a greasy film.

Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract

Marigold flowers steeped in sunflower oil — long used to soothe and comfort skin that's dry, tight or easily upset. At 24%, it's what gives this balm its calming character on reactive skin.

Mango Seed Butter

Mangifera Indica Seed Butter

A soft, quickly-absorbed plant butter that nourishes and conditions without heaviness — it's what gives the balm its rich, cushiony feel. At 17%, it's the structural backbone alongside the wax.

How it works: rich in stearic and oleic acids, mango butter forms a protective layer on the skin's surface that slows moisture loss without blocking pores.

Candelilla Wax

Euphorbia Cerifera Cera

A plant wax from the candelilla shrub of northern Mexico. It gives the balm its firm, protective set and seals in moisture — and being entirely plant-derived, it keeps this balm beeswax-free and vegan.

Arrowroot Powder

Maranta Arundinacea Powder

A fine, natural plant powder that softens the finish. It takes the shine off the oils so the balm presses in silky rather than slick, and helps it feel lighter on skin than you'd expect from something this nourishing.

Vitamin E

Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil

  • What skin type is the Pure Restore Face Balm for?

    The Pure Restore Face Balm is made for dry and reactive skin — skin that feels tight, flushes easily or needs more comfort than a lotion can give. It works on the face and lips, so it's a single step that covers both.

    It's a concentrated balm rather than an all-over moisturiser. A small amount warmed between the fingertips and pressed into the driest patches is all you need — it's rich enough to work hard in targeted areas without feeling heavy.

  • What does calendula actually do for skin?

    Calendula-infused oil — marigold flowers steeped in sunflower oil — is one of the most traditionally used botanicals for comforting dry, tight and easily upset skin. In the Pure Restore Face Balm it sits at 24%, making it one of the three largest ingredients.

    Research reviewed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review found that calendula extract is non-sensitising and well-tolerated at cosmetic use levels, with no irritant effects in repeated dermal exposure studies. We use it because it works, not just because it sounds good on a label.

  • Can I use it on my lips as well as my face?

    Yes — the Pure Restore Face Balm is designed for both face and lips. It's covered by a CPSR that specifically includes lip exposure in its safety calculations, so it's suitable for use on both.

    It makes a particularly good lip treatment on dry days or overnight. The balm melts quickly on contact, so a tiny amount applied with a fingertip is all you need.

  • Where does it fit in my skincare routine?

    Use the Pure Restore Face Balm as the last step in your routine — morning, night, or both. Balms seal in what you've already applied, so it works best layered over any serums or moisturisers.

    Apply to slightly damp skin if you can — it helps lock in comfort. Warm a small amount between clean fingertips until it softens, then press rather than rub it into dry or reactive areas and lips.

  • Is it safe to use during pregnancy?

    The Pure Restore Face Balm contains no retinoids, no salicylic acid, no essential oils above 0.3%, and no synthetic fragrance. It has been independently safety-assessed to UK Cosmetics Regulation SI 2020/1466 (CPSR ref: MAF-HCH-0224-01). As with any skincare product, we'd always recommend checking with your midwife or GP if you have any concerns.

    It does contain lavender essential oil at 0.3% — a very low concentration. If you'd prefer to avoid all essential oils during pregnancy, this balm isn't the right fit. We're working on a fragrance-free option.

  • Does it contain 'parfum'? What's actually in the scent?

    No 'parfum' — ever. The scent in the Pure Restore Face Balm comes from a single ingredient: pure lavender essential oil (Lavandula Angustifolia Oil) at 0.3%. That's it. It's named in full on the label.

    The linalool you'll see declared is not a separate ingredient — it's a naturally occurring component of lavender oil that UK law requires to be listed above a set threshold. We declare it plainly. Brands using 'parfum' can hide this kind of information; we don't.

  • I have sensitive skin — should I patch test?

    Yes, we'd always suggest a patch test first if your skin is on the reactive side — apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist or elbow and leave for 24 hours before using on your face. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.

    The balm is built around some of the gentlest botanicals in skincare — rosehip, calendula and squalane — but everyone's skin is different. The lavender essential oil, though at a very low concentration, is the ingredient most likely to cause a reaction in those with known fragrance sensitivity.

  • Why is it vegan if it's a balm? Don't balms usually contain beeswax?

    Most balms use beeswax to create their firm, protective set — but the Pure Restore Face Balm uses candelilla wax (Euphorbia Cerifera Cera) instead. Candelilla is a plant wax from a Mexican shrub, and it gives the balm its structure without any animal-derived ingredients.

    It's actually a firmer wax than beeswax, which means the balm holds well even in warmer temperatures — a practical benefit as well as an ethical one.

  • Why does it cost £22.00?

    The Pure Restore Face Balm is made by hand in small batches in Berkshire using rosehip oil, plant-derived squalane, and calendula-infused oil — ingredients that cost significantly more than the mineral oils and synthetic thickeners used in many mass-market balms. Every batch is independently safety-assessed and individually filled and labelled.

    A 30ml tin used as directed — a small amount pressed into dry areas morning and night — will last most people two to three months. That works out at well under 40p a day for the last step in your routine.
